Compassion in Action: A voice for Understanding and Hope

At Sparrows Landing, we believe that true compassion begins with understanding.

“Compassion in Action” is a space created to bring awareness, insight, and perspective to the realities of homelessness - helping others see beyond the surface and into the hearts and stories of those experiencing it.

This section will feature reflections, advocacy, and real-world insight into the challenges individuals face, as well as the hope that exists even in the most difficult circumstances.

We are honored to share this space in connection with Barbara Thayer, a Sparrows Landing board member, long-time advocate for individuals experiencing homelessness, and the creator of Compassion in Action. Through her writing and leadership, Barbara brings a powerful voice of truth, empathy, and lived understanding to this mission.

Her work will be featured through community platforms such as Right Now Oregon, where she continues to speak into the realities of homelessness with clarity, compassion, and courage.

Through Compassion in Action, we hope to foster deeper understanding, challenge misconceptions, and inspire meaningful connections within our community.

Because when we begin to truly see one another, compassion naturally follows - and from compassion, real change can begin.
